The drive between Franschoek and Robertson along the Franschoek pass was stunning. Internet is a bit sparse here so posts on that and all our many wine/coffee/cheese/chocolate tastings to follow in the next few days..

That time, with the lightning
So lightning struck the ground in a field next door to where we were staying in Franschoek yesterday evening. Zac and Miriam had gone to a wine tasting and Toby and I were at home resting as we still have colds.. M & Z had just come out if the winery next door when a bolt hit the ground between them and us. They said they could see the light burned into their retinas for hours afterwards. Toby and I only heard the thunder (loudest thing ever!) but i basically ran at Toby in a blind panic of what the fuck was that. Needless to say we were all pretty shaken by it all as well as extremely adrenalined. The lightning strike cut power to the block of houses we were in so last night was rather rustic, candles and fireplace. Had a great dinner out and early to bed but today we found out the power was not going to come back on for a few days and the gate was not opening or closing so we left and are now sitting in the sun in a small town called Robertson. This is a photo of the sky after the lightning, you can see red clouds in the dip between the hills - that's the angry nature moving off into the distance.

Holy crap! How scary and exciting! We also had lots of lightning and thunder on Saturday though not as dramatic as yours.
